The D945GTPLR motherboard provides 8 audio channels using Intel High Definition Audio and the Sigmatel 9223 codec with a healthy selection of audio connections

• Rear panel ⅛" jack green, line out L/R
• Rear panel ⅛" jack blue, line in L/R or side surround out L/R
• Rear panel ⅛" jack black, rear surround out L/R
• Rear panel ⅛" jack orange, centre channel out and subwoofer out
• Rear panel ⅛" jack pink, mic in
• Rear panel TOSLINK optical SPDIF digital out
• Front panel ⅛" jack pink, mic in
• Front panel ⅛" jack green, line out L/R

One of the reasons for choosing this motherboard was the optical output, which will connect to my 5.1 surround sound amplifier and speakers, but for the moment the machine is connected using line out via my KVM to a set of Labtec 2.1 speakers.

Other configurations of the D945GTP only provide 6 audio channels using the Sigmatel 9220 codec and do not have the optical output.
